Lora Dimitrova - Chamber Musician

Lora is an extremely experienced chamber musician and has an extensive repertoire of chamber music, particularly for piano and violin, and piano trio, quartet and quintet.

She has won the Parkhouse Award for Chamber Music (with the violinist Hanna Weinmeister) and has taught on chamber music courses in France and Spain on behalf of London's Guildhall School of Music. She has performed chamber music with many violinists, trios and quartets - a selection are shown below.

Lora formed a very successful partnership with the Austrian Violinist, Hanna Weinmeister. They went on to enter the biennial international competition for the prestigeous Parkhouse Award for outstanding ensembles of young musicians, which they won in 1995. This award provided concert management by GBZ Management and lots of chamber recitals in London's Wigmore Hall and around the UK. They also toured Switzerland and Austria presenting Hanna's "Bennett" Stradivarius on loan from Winterthur. Hanna is currently the leader of the Zurich Opera Orchestra.

Like Lora, the violinist Priya Mitchell was a winner of the YCAT competition (Young Concert/Classical Artists Trust) and the two frequently performed chamber music together during their time under YCAT's management - including a particularly memorable recital at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.

Lora formed another successful partnership with the Welsh violinist Sian Phillips, giving recitals in the UK and going on tour in Spain and Gibralter.

Lora teamed up with Ben Hancox to form the Boreal Duo, giving chamber recitals in the South of England. Ben Hancox currently plays first violin in the Sacconi quartet.

Lora played with a then very young violinist Chloe Hanslip as she was starting her career.

Lora performed Brahms' Piano Quintet and Schubert's Trout Quintet with members of the Navarra String Quartet in a concert in Canterbury. The Navarra Quartet won the YCAT competition (Young Concert/Classical Artists Trust) in 2006.

Lora played with the Kandinski Trio in a hugely enjoyable tour of Scotland's highlands and islands. Shown here is the group about to board a light aircraft to reach some rather inaccessible areas - transport there is very weather dependent, but there are beautiful views when the weather holds up.

Lora played the Schumann Piano Quintet with the Maggini Quartet in a memorable concert at Salomons Estate near Tunbridge Wells in the UK.

One of Lora's more unusual engagements was to play chamber music with the celebrated double bass player (and conductor), Leon Bosch, in a recital of classical and contemporary music in Canterbury. Lora and Leon went on to join 3 members of the Navarra String Quartet (see above) for a performance of Schubert's Trout Quintet which, unusually for classical piano quintets, is scored for a double bass rather than a second violin.
